Quick Fire Blog: Vulva vs. Vagina – what’s the difference?

Vulva vs. Vagina. What’s the Deal?
Vulva? Vagina? Aren't they the same thing? It can be super confusing, so let’s clear things up once and for all.

The vagina is the internal part, it’s a muscular, stretchy canal that connects your cervix to the outside of your body. It plays a role in things like menstrual flow, childbirth, and intimacy. Think of it as your body’s inner corridor.

The vulva, on the other hand, is the external area, everything you can see on the outside. That includes the labia (inner and outer lips), clitoris (your pleasure HQ), urethral opening (where you pee), and the vaginal opening itself. It’s your body’s welcome mat and first line of protection, not to mention a major source of sensation and empowerment.

So, What Happens Down There During Menopause?

Just like the rest of your body, your vulva and vagina go through changes during and after menopause, mostly thanks to falling estrogen levels (yep, it always comes back to hormones!).

Estrogen plays an important role in supporting moisture, elasticity, blood flow, and the integrity of the vaginal and vulva tissue. As levels decline, these tissues can become more delicate and less naturally lubricated.

Here’s what you might notice:

Dryness and Less Natural Lubrication
Lower estrogen means less moisture, both inside the vagina and around the vulva. This can make things feel drier or more sensitive than usual.

Thinner, Less Elastic Skin
The tissues around the vulva and vagina can become thinner, less plump, and more fragile. This can affect how comfortable you feel during daily activities (and intimacy too).

pH Changes
Your vaginal pH may shift, which can affect the natural balance of good bacteria and potentially increase the chance of irritation or changes in odour.

Weakened Tissue & Tone
Estrogen also supports tissue strength and suppleness. With less of it, you might experience a decrease in muscle tone or notice things don’t feel quite the same.

But here’s the good news, these changes are totally normal during this stage of life, and there are gentle, natural ways to support your comfort, hydration, and overall intimate wellness.

Supporting hydration from within can play a role in supporting vaginal tissue moisture and skin suppleness. Peach Perfect™ is formulated to support natural hydration and skin glow, including intimate tissue hydration, helping you feel more comfortable and confident in your body.

Caring for your vulva and vagina during menopause doesn't have to feel awkward or overwhelming. It can be part of a broader self-care routine that keeps you feeling empowered, informed and fabulous.
